Jagrati’s Journey highlights the resilience of the human spirit. Set in rural Guyana and London, it is the tale of a young girl’s unhappy relationship with her mother and her long search for the motivation behind her mother’s rejection.
The reader is taken on a journey from the moment Jagrati experiences feelings of abandonment and rejection after being tricked at 15 by her mother, Rookmin, into marrying an alcoholic three times her age, through Jagrati’s struggle to better her life, to when she discovers the reason her mother sought to distance herself from her.
